This is the second in a series of interviews to give you a bit of an insight into the businesses behind Forest Hill Fashion Week. Today we talk to Pascale and Cyrus of Stag & Bow:
What We Do
Stag & Bow is located at 8 Dartmouth Road, and we are purveyors of Craft, History and Haberdashery. We are all about craftsmanship, sharing skills and history, handmade things with love and passion and a little bit of nostalgia thrown in for good measure. We sell materials for making; Beautiful top quality yarns (only natural fibres mind!), knitting, crochet, craft and sewing accessories.
We stock a selection of gorgeous fabrics, mouthwatering felt in a rainbow of colours and threads, trims, feathers, buttons and bobbles to put a smile on anyone’s face! (and that’s just the Haberdashery part of our business…) We carry a carefully chosen selection of unique designer maker pieces, ranging from jewellery and clothing to homewares and on top of that we have a fine selection of lovely old pieces, chosen for their craftsmanship, beauty and just plain old loveliness. A huge part of our ethos is sharing skills, which we do with our intimate craft and textile workshops, craft mornings, social evenings and special events. At Stag & Bow we give you a total shopping experience and combined with our joint knowledge and expertise – Cyrus is our furniture, joinery, wood working craftsman and artist, Pascale is an all round textile nerd and couture trained dressmaker and Holly is our conservation and heritage beading, knitting and needlework extraordinaire – we endeavour to find the answer, no matter what it may be!
Why Forest Hill
Stag & Bow was opened in December 2010 by us; Pascale & Cyrus. We chose to open in Forest Hill because we grew up here and have a deep connection and love for the area. Both of us lived away for many years but came back to the place that we call home… Forest Hill, Souf East London. When Pascale returned from living in Australia and found that her favourite local haberdashery and craft/wonder emporium had closed down whilst away there was no question about opening the shop anywhere else really! (Remember Maple Textiles in Penge? – what a marvelous place…)
Who We Are
Our personal style is reflected in our shop, between the three of us we have a colourful, handmade, old fashioned sensibility and approach to what we wear. Cyrus loves a trilby and braces, Pascale favours a costume; one day a 40’s day dress, a flouro pink mini skirt and cowboy boots the next. You will often find Holly wearing one of her own lovely hand knits over a vintage dress.
Three things you may not know about our business
– We have been chosen by Time Out London to feature in their London’s best shops guide for 2013
– We now offer a bespoke picture framing service
– We have an ever growing database of makers (mostly local) and can put you in touch with the craftsperson you need, be it drapery, tailoring, screen printing, upholstery, embroidery, beading, textile conservation and restoration, knitters, crocheters, dressmaking, prop making, furniture making and more… Just ask, or join our database if you have a skill to offer!
