At the beginning of March 2012, Lewisham Council approached all the local assemblies which had voted their Town Centre as one of their top priorities and invited them to submit a bid to go forward as Lewisham’s Portas Pilot bid. Only one bid would go forward.
In the end, they decided that Sydenham and Forest Hill’s bids were the best, but that they were impossible to separate. Providing that the two wards could agree, Lewisham suggested that we would combine our bids and put forwards a joint bid.
And so the bid for Round One was developed. After several weeks’ intense work and meetings, the final bid looked nothing like the original bids proposed by Forest Hill Society and Sydenham Town Centre Steering Group. It had become clear that the Portas Pilot would concentrate on empty shops and would not fund some of the original proposals.
This is the video which was submitted in support of the bid. A big thank you to Sean Cameron and Ed Holloway for editing this to a very tight deadline.
